The name Dachau resonates with people from all over the world. The name is synonymous with the concentration camp system, and is associated with the worst atrocities and brutal crimes carried out by the Nazi regime between 1933-45.
Today the site is a memorial to the estimated 41,500 victims who lost their lives there. Our tour has been developed to honor those victims and the survivors by telling their story.

Meet up at Marienplatz
Your guide will meet you at 09:00 on the world famous Marienplatz (St Mary’s square) in Central Munich where he will be displaying a placard with ‘Dachau Memorial Tour’ to make locating him really easy for you. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions about the tour prior to departure and will be briefed on how your tour will work.
Travel to the Town of Dachau
Your guide will already have taken care of your transportation tickets and he will guide you onto the Munich S-Bahn rail system for a 20 minute ride to Dachau, a small 9th century town 10 miles NW of Munich with a population of 42,000. At Dachau, a short 10 minute bus ride which very much follows the route that the prisoners would have taken, will finish at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial site. At all times during the journey your guide will be happy to answer your questions, either about the tour or your stay in Munich generally. After the tour you will be accompanied back to Marienplatz, unless of course you have your own arrangements.
Dachau concentration Camp Memorial
You will be spending approximately 3 hours on the Memorial site and your guide will be passionate about making your time factually rich and interesting. You will be guided through the whole site, stopping at stations where the camp and memorial aspects will be explained with historical context. Questions are encouraged because the nature of the tour can be disturbing and is very thought provoking. The focus on the site is the plight of the victims and what they were subjected to, but we will also pay attention to the SS, the perpetrators of the crimes, and try to understand how they so willingly undertook their duties. Time will be given within the 3 hours to explore the excellent museum exhibit, so that participants on the tour feel that they have had the opportunity to explore for themselves as well. Feedback that we receive suggests that people really appreciate this time to reflect on the nature of what they are experiencing.
