Alun was an absolute pleasure. He had the logistics of this tour down perfectly. He knew exactly what time and even where to stand for the train and bus. The tour was powerful. Alun brought the history to life both during the Dachau and Third Reich tours…I can not recommend Alun enough.

From Munich to Dachau and Back in a Day
1. Meet Up at Marienplatz
Your guide will meet you 10 minutes before your 9:00 departure in the beautiful Marienplatz (St. Mary’s square) in central Munich.
2. Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site
After purchasing your transportation tickets, your guide will take you through the Munich S-Bahn rail system and a bus ride to the Dachau memorial site. You will be led through the whole site for approximately 3 hours, where certain stations and their historical context will be explained.
The focus on the site is the plight of the victims and what they were subjected to, but we will also pay attention to the SS—the perpetrators of the crimes—and try to understand how they so willingly undertook their duties. Time will also be given to explore the excellent museum exhibit so that you have the opportunity to explore for yourself as well.
For more detailed information on the morning portion of the tour, refer to the itinerary as presented on our Dachau tour page(opens in a new tab).
3. Lunch Break
You will return to Marienplatz with your guide at approximately 14:00, at which time you will have a lunch break. Your guide will be happy to recommend local food options. Please note that lunch is not included in the tour price.
4. Third Reich Walking Tour
The afternoon portion of the tour will commence again at 15:00 starting at Marienplatz. The tour will set off along the historic main thoroughfare of Munich called Tal and continue past many of Munich’s historical treasures, including: the famous Viktualienmarkt; the former Sterneckerbräu Beer Hall; Munich’s oldest hotel; Odeonsplatz, the failed Beer Hall Putsch of 1923; Brienner Straße, one of Hitler’s favourite cafes; the site of the brand new Documentation Centre of National Socialism; and the Führerbau, where the Munich Agreement of 1938 was signed.
For further details of the afternoon walking tour, please refer to the Third Reich Walking tour page(opens in a new tab).
5. Koenigsplatz
The tour will finish at 17:00 in Koenigsplatz in central Munich. You will have the option of being escorted back to Marienplatz by your guide or continuing on your own way. Not sure what to do next? Ask your guide for advice! We are happy to help you get the most out of your time.

We spent the best part of the day with Alun doing both tours. His knowledge was second to none, and his ability to keep a person interested the whole time was amazing. He had time for every person on the tours, young and old. The time we spent at each location visited was perfect. There is a good amount of walking on the tours but absolutely worth every minute of it. Very much value for money with Alun, would do both tours again in a heartbeat. Thank you Alun.
Alun is an incredible tour guide. Very knowledgeable with excellent presentation. He sheds light on a very dark period in German history.
This is a must do trip if you go to Munich. Alun’s knowledge of the camp and the history was outstanding, he explains in simple terms the politics and propaganda behind this period of history. The organisation of transport to and from the camp by Alun was faultless ensuring a great day was had by all…This was a superb trip and very very informative. Do not miss it!!
